Alhambra Hospital Medical Center has been ranked as one of the safest hospitals in California and the nation in a report issued recently by Consumer Reports, a national consumer organization. Alhambra Hospital received a score 64 points and was listed as one of the top six hospitals in California.

Consumer Reports rated hospitals for safety, using "the most current data available to us at the time of our analysis." The report includes information from government and independent sources in 1,159 hospitals in 44 states. Among the categories reviewed were infections, readmissions, communications, and scanning. Alhambra Hospital Medical Center is a medium size hospital with 144 beds and 700 employees offering many special services, according to Iris Lai, Chief Executive Officer of the hospital. "We are a small community hospital with strengths and niche services," Lai said. She credited the high ranking for the hospital to the work of the owners, staff, and doctors, and communications with the community. Alhambra Hospital ranked higher than several other well-known Southern California hospitals, including Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena which was 16 points lower than Alhambra, and LAC/USC Medical Center in Los Angeles, which received a score of 52. This is not the first time Alhambra Hospital has received national recognition. A report recently released by HealthGrades, "a trusted independent source of physician information and hospital quality ratings," gave the institution a five star ratings in several categories and top ranking nationally. Alhambra Hospital is located at 100 South Raymond Avenue in Alhambra. On the hospital website, Ms. Lai stated, "These special awards are a representation of the commitment our team has towards providing the best possible care to our community." While Alhambra Hospital received a score of 64, the top ranking for California hospitals was 68 points for the Bakersfield Heart Hospital in Bakersfield. Other local hospitals received favorable scores, but were not among the top rankings. San Gabriel Valley Medical Center in San Gabriel received a safety score of 48 points. Beverly Hospital in Montebello was awarded 43 points. Greater El Monte Community Hospital received 36 points. Garfield Medical Center in Monterey Park scored 33 points. The lowest score given to a California hospital was 25 points for Hanford Community Medical Center in Hanford.
